Passing the Bell

The Tisdale Chapter of Superannuated Teachers enjoyed an outing on Thursday, June 24. Twenty-one people gathered at Adelle's Tea House and Treasures in Carrot River. This tea house is owned and operated by Tisdale Chapter member Audrey Adelman. After a tasty and artfully presented lunch, President Maureen Donald passed the bell to the incoming president Bob Donnan.
Some of these people returned home after the lunch but some of them journeyed on to Tobin Lake Resort where they were joined by others who had driven directly to Tobin Lake for a total of eighteen people from the Tisdale group who enjoyed a fish fry meal hosted by the Nipawin Chapter of STS. Musical entertainment was provided by the Steve Rudy band.
This outing marked the end of the activities of the chapter for this year but it has again been an active year for this group. The first activity of the year was a "To Hell with the Bell " breakfast at the Riverside Golf Course Lounge held on the first day of classes of the new school year. Newsletters outlining planned activities for the year as well as the names and phone numbers of officers and committee chairs were available.
In September the group enjoyed a trip to the Hidden Meadows Golf Course Club House where lunch was provided as well as an opportunity to enjoy a round of golf.
In October Red Deer River Valley and Nipawin Chapter members were invited to join the Tisdale members for a pot-luck lunch with our provincial Vice-President , Margaret Martin of Saskatoon as the guest speaker. Ten year membership awards were earned by Mae Moritz, Cheryl Weenk, Sylvia Dion, Jim Hoffart, Selena Kowal, Jeanne McCorriston and Bill Zorn. Twenty year key fobs were earned by Dorothy Hobbs and Ron Eremko. These awards were presented by Margaret Martin and an interesting note is that Ron Eremko was Margaret's husband Bill's Grade Seven teacher.
President Maureen Donald attended the Chapter Presidents' meeting in Saskatoon and reported that she found it very useful - especially the sharing of ideas with other presidents. She shared information regarding the Benefits Plans and the Chapter Activity Support Program. Also in November, several of the chapter members travelled to Sylvania for a fantastic meal followed by lots of laughs at their annual Dinner Theatre.
In December the Chapter members provided the lunch for the Birthday Tea at Sasko Park Lodge. Melfort Chapter members were invited to join those from Tisdale for a Christmas Social. It was a most enjoyable afternoon of fellowship that followed a fantastic turkey dinner.
In February the members met at Gus' Greek Ribs for lunch. Some of the members had accepted the invitation from the Melfort Chapter to join them for a Laughter Yoga session and a report on this was shared with the others. Members also provided the lunch for the Birthday Tea at New Market Manor.
Ron Fisher and Len Solomon of the Funeral Advisory and Memorial Society of Saskatchewan were the guest speakers for the March meeting. They shared valuable information with the group and urged them to prepare for this inevitable event. A chapter donation as well as personal donations were made to the Aid to Central America Committee to continue the pledge of "Teachers Helping Teachers". Personal donations were also made at this time to the Tisdale Middle and Secondary School Scholarship Fund.
Resolutions to be voted on at the Annual General Meeting were discussed at the April meeting. The three delegates attending this AGM were Ellen Lloyd, Bev Scott and Darlene McCullough. The reports from the AGM were heard at the May Chapter meeting.
As in past years, the group also collected used stamps as well as serving as judges at the Legion Remembrance Day contest entries.
The group is again looking forward to renewing and continuing friendships in the coming year and encourages the new retirees to join them for this.
